Future Bass

Inshore bass of a sporting size are becoming increasingly rare, due to unacceptable levels of commercial activity especially with gill nets. When you have a success, be careful who you give your secrets to, and who is watching you on the beach. Our local gill netter often studies anglers with binoculars to observe their progress before he sets his nets.

There is no harm in taking the occasional fish for the pot, but there is incontrovertible proof that bass over about 20" are very territorial in their behaviour. If you over-exploit a mark, it is your own future sport you will destroy.
